One of the simplest but most powerful tips is to smile. It is not just eye contact. I have tried this myself, and see the big difference in how people respond. Another great tip is remembering coworkers’ names. It sounds simple, but it shows respect and makes people feel valued. This book also suggests sharing meals together because offices can be isolating and lonely places even when everyone is busy. I put it into practice and always share meals with my co-workers, which helps us connect, build teamwork and share tacit knowledge.
Praising others is another key to a great work environment. Give specific and genuine compliments during meetings to make people feel appreciated. Some small rituals, like coffee breaks, can bring the team closer. During these moments we can share laughter and discuss various matters. I believe a workplace with humor and positive energy will surely boost creativity and productivity. When people enjoy their time at work, they stop seeing it as just a JOB—it becomes a source of JOY too.
